You don’t have to wait until school is back in session to start scrapbooking your summer memories. From vacations to sports, summertime is full of photo opportunities and special memories.
Vacation Photos
The biggest event on our summer calendars is usually a family vacation. It could be as simple as a camp out to a day at the lake but nothing relaxes us like time away. Of course, one of the first things to be packed for vacation is your camera so you are guaranteed to catch some timeless memories.
A few tips on capturing the perfect summer vacation photos include:
- Take photos early and often! It is better to have too many photos of the kids at the water park than to forget to take any—or heaven forbid, drop the camera in the water!
- Study up on how to take good specialty shot photographs such as sunny, action shots (from a day at the park), low light shots (such as catching fireflies) and of course, fireworks. Each one has a special technique which is worth learning.
- Stage a few family shots. As wonderful as candid shots are, you will want to make sure you have some photos of the whole family reunion or one of the kids with their cousins.
Sports Memories
And let’s not forget those summer sports moments! Obviously the focal point of your scrapbook pages will be your photos. But choosing the appropriate scrapbook supplies and accessories will bring the whole project together.
- Create a Baseball or Softball themed album, using coordinated papers and embellishments. This way all your photos and memories will be stored together.
- Choose scrapbook appropriate ephemera. Tickets, invitations, brochures, and maps are all good items to include in a scrapbook. For safety purposes, photocopy each item or use archival spray.
- For lumpy items such as seashells or souvenirs, incorporate them into your pages by photographing them or recreating them with paper piecing.
- Finish up your scrapbook pages quickly by using themed scrapbook papers and scrapbook page kits.
With a completed summer scrapbook completed, you will have no problem answering the question, “So what did you do over the summer?”

Matching your layout theme to the picture would be a good idea. It would really then be a cool scrapbook page.
